RRsumm.

Java RMI Performance and Object Model Interoperability: Experiments with Java/HPC++ Distributed Components

Java RMI provides an elegant and powerful model for invoking member functions on objects that exist in remote address spaces. Unfortunately, it is a Java-to-Java communication model and many of the objects we would like java to interact with may be scientiic application written in C++ or Fortran. This paper explores the design of RMI and extracts a subset of the RMI object model that is compati...

Distributed Systems Security

A distributed system is a set of autonomous units connected through some network. The most used distribution architectures are CORBA, DCOM, and RMI. CORBA is an architectural standard for interoperability of systems using different operating systems and languages. DCOM is Microsoft's distribution architecture for COM components. It only allows interoperation of Microsoft's systems. RMI (Remote ...

Compiler support for an RMI implementation using NexusJava

Java [7] is a portable, object oriented programming language. Its portability is obtained by compiling Java source code into bytecode which can be directly executed by a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) running on any host. The main operation in the Java language is the invocation of a method on an object. These methods perform some action after which control is returned to the invoking method. Typic...

A Configurable RMI Mechanism for Sharing Distributed Java Objects

M any distributed programming environments have been designed to support distributed shared objects over the Internet. Most of these environments—Java RMI1 and CORBA,2 for example—support clientserver applications where distributed objects reside on servers, which execute all methods (remote or local) invoked on the objects. Traditional client-server models do not support client-side object cac...
